The World Health Organisation (WHO) ended the global health emergency for Monkey Pox (MPox) on Thursday after nearly a year.
In July 2022, the WHO declared MPox a global health emergency.
On Wednesday, the WHO’s emergency committee advised Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to withdraw the disease’s emergency classification. Ghebreyesus ended the emergency status on this suggestion.
MPox, which spreads through body fluids and causes flu-like symptoms and pus-filled skin lesions, has been controlled.
The WHO leader announced an almost 90% decline in MPox cases in the last three months compared to the preceding three. From 2022 to 8 May, the WHO reported 87,000 MPox cases worldwide.
