A thorough traffic plan for Islamabad and Rawalpindi has been issued as the New Zealand and Pakistan cricket teams prepare to face off in a highly anticipated series. The matches will be held from April 18th to April 30th, 2023, with both teams staying at Islamabad’s Serena Hotel.
A diversion plan has been designed to ensure smooth traffic flow during this time. First, Khayaban-e-Suhrawardy Road will be closed in front of the Serena main gate. Instead, traffic will be rerouted to Globe Chowk via the Convention Centre, with access to Serena remaining accessible from Globe Chowk.
However, traffic congestion is expected in the FATA lane, which will remain open for both access and exit to Serena Hotel and SBC as a result of this diversion.
Second, the Murree Road from Faizabad to Double Road would be closed during the teams’ departure and arrival. Furthermore, Stadium Road will be entirely closed on both sides from 9th Avenue Chowk to Double Road throughout the event.
In addition to these closures, other diversions will be in place for traffic arriving from various directions.
Traffic from Islamabad will be routed via Faizabad to the Motorway, while traffic from Rawalpindi to Islamabad will be routed via 6th Road Chowk to Saidpur Road. Those coming from Islamabad’s 9th Avenue would be rerouted to IJP Road.
To avoid inconvenience, commuters and locals should arrange their journeys properly and use the diversion routes. The authorities have also asked the public to cooperate with the traffic plan and follow traffic police instructions in order to protect everyone’s safety and security.
