Petrol Price in Pakistan Breaks All Previous Records to Hit All-Time High

The government has raised the prices of all petroleum products, with petrol and diesel reaching all-time highs.

According to a press release issued late Wednesday by the Ministry of Finance, the price increase is due to the depreciation of the Pakistani Rupee.

Following the increase, the new price of petrol will be Rs. 272 per litre, an increase of Rs. 22.20 per litre. Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel has increased by Rs. 17.20 per litre to Rs. 280 per litre. The new prices will go into effect on February 16.

The price of kerosene has also been raised by Rs. 12.90 per litre, to Rs. 202.73 per litre. The price of light diesel oil has risen by Rs. 9.68, and it will now cost Rs. 196.68 per litre.

Last month, just days before the scheduled fortnightly review of petroleum prices, the government announced an immediate increase in prices of petrol and diesel by Rs. 35 per litre.
