Around 10,000 daily wager employees must be regularised, the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has been asked by a parliamentary committee.
Qadir Khan Mandokhail, the chairman of the Special Committee on Affected Workers, has ordered NBP to regularise its daily wage workers by means of the Finance Ministry.
Details indicate that over 10,000 individuals are employed by NBP on a daily basis, and approximately 1100 of them have college degrees. According to reports, the Finance committee of the National Assembly has also advised the Finance division to regularise day labourers employed by NBP.
About 5,000 contract workers were also engaged by NBP in the past four to five years.
Although the parliamentary panel is urged to regularise the personnel, a Ministry of Finance official told ProPakistani that there have been court rulings opposing the regularisation, particularly at NBP.
It is important to note that the administration constituted this special committee in a manner similar to how Syed Khursheed Shah established a committee in 2012.
Qadir Mandokhel, the chairman of the Special Committee on Affected Employees, announced a few days ago that he intended to introduce a bill in the parliament to pass legislation regarding the committee’s historic judgements for the impacted federal government employees.
