The Lahore High Court (LHC) made the decision on Friday to rescind the trading hours and permit all markets to remain open till Eid-ul-Fitr, which is the end of the fasting day.
The announcement was issued by the court, which is presided over by Justice Shahid Karim, during a weekly hearing on a range of environmental matters.
The court had previously mandated that bakeries and restaurants close at 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and 11:00 p.m. on weekends prior to this announcement.
Since people like to visit markets for Eid shopping after Iftar and Tarahweeh prayers, the businessmen had gone before the judge and requested an extension of business hours throughout Ramadan.
In response to their request, Justice Karim extended market hours till one in the morning in consideration of Eid-ul-Fitr. Furthermore, the judge last week gave the go-ahead for bakers to remain open until one in the morning every day throughout Ramadan.
