Job Description

You’re basically the go-to person for making interiors actually happen. Forget those boring blueprints gathering dust—your job is to wrangle fit-out projects for hotels, shops, and offices, right from the “Yeah, let’s build this thing” moment all the way until you throw the keys back to the client. Think chaos, decisions flying left and right, deadlines breathing down your neck—fun times, right? It’s all about juggling quality, cost (watch those budgets bleed!), and making sure everything’s done on time.

You’re right in the mix, too. Walls, ceilings, fancy flooring, joinery, whatever—if it lives inside, you’re on it. You’ll ride herd on subcontractors (who, let’s be real, will test your patience), keep the work on track, and make sure that when the sparkies show up to install, say, lighting, it actually fits into the ceiling and not into a void nobody can reach. Integration is the name of the game.

Materials and finishes? Yeah, you’re the picky one. Chasing samples, picking out the good stuff, tossing the cheap junk, and sometimes playing bad cop with suppliers who can’t tell oak from MDF. Oh, and you better keep it green and sustainable too, cause the client wants to show off their “eco-friendly” space on Instagram.

Rules and red tape? Gotta love ’em. You’ll be dealing with city permits, codes nobody reads, and health & safety requirements that mean hard hats aren’t optional. Make sure nobody’s out there playing fast and loose with safety or, trust me, you’ll hear about it.

Designs and drawings can be a headache—one day you’re deciphering an architect’s scribbles, next day hunting down the foreman because someone decided a wall should “just shift a meter.” You’re the filter, making sure what’s on paper actually shows up, correctly, on site.

And then the people… oh boy, the people. Architects, consultants, subbies, the MEP folks (yup, that’s plumbing and all the electrics), and of course, clients who want everything yesterday. Your charm and patience will be tested. But hey, you make it all work. That’s the job.
