How Gasoline Prices in the UAE Are Set

Prior to 2015, the government in the UAE controlled and maintained a steady level of fuel prices. This indicated that the prices were fixed regardless of changes in market rates or the price of manufacturing.

The UAE government made the decision to deregulate gasoline prices in 2015. This meant that the prices would be set by market rates and would change based on variables including the price of crude oil on the international market, supply and demand, and other economic factors.

However, the UAE government agreed to restrict fuel prices once more at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 in order to help the people and companies who were impacted by the epidemic.

The UAE government then made the decision to once again deregulate fuel prices and let the market determine them in March 2021.
