GHQ Excuses From Deploying Army for Elections Security

The General Headquarters (GHQ) has reportedly turned down the Interior Ministry’s request to deploy the Army, Rangers, and FC for upcoming elections.

Due to the resurgence of terrorism, GHQ stated in a letter received by the Ministry of Interior that security personnel are currently focused on internal and border security.

As a result, soldiers would be unable to be deployed for by-elections in 64 National Assembly constituencies, as well as general elections in KP and Punjab, according to the letter.

According to sources, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has requested that the Army and Rangers be deployed for the general elections and by-elections in the provinces.

In response, GHQ stated that security personnel have been assigned to internal and border security since February 27 and will be engaged in a digital census until April 3.

It was reported a day ago that the IG KP had informed the ECP that KP Police is short 57,000 officers. He added that even if officers from AJK and GB are called in, the KP Police will be unable to prepare for the elections.
