The opening game of the three-match Test series between Australia and Pakistan, due for December this year, will be played at Perth’s historic stadium.
According to media reports, the first Test of the Australian Test season will take place in Perth before moving on to the two subsequent annual holiday Tests in Melbourne and Sydney.
The CEO of Western Australian Cricket, Christina Matthews, indicated interest in hosting Pakistan for a Test match at Optus Stadium last month.
In order to do this, Matthews asked Cricket Australia (CA) to allow Perth to host a match against Pakistan for the second consecutive year rather than the West Indies.
In December and January, the Babar Azam-led Test team is due to go to Australia for a three-match Test series that will be a part of the upcoming ICC Test Championship 2023–25 cycle.
It is important to note that the national team has only ever played T20 International matches at Perth, therefore they haven’t participated in a five-day Test match there.
In 2019–20, the national team visited Australia for a two-match Test series, which the home team won 2-0.
