The Quetta-Karachi National Highway is increasingly becoming an accident hotspot. A media source claims that over the past three and a half years, traffic incidents on the mentioned road resulted in 787 fatalities and 38,759 injuries.
Similarly, in the previous four months, ten different accidents on the major highway between Quetta and Karachi resulted in more than 55 fatalities and more than 60 injuries.
The Balochistan’s 5 national highways saw 28,646 accidents between October 2019 and March 2023, according to the Emergency Response Centre (ERC). According to the research, 646 families were impacted by 264 traffic incidents on various national highways in Balochistan during the first three months of this year.
According to Inayatullah Agha, general manager of the National Highway Authority, work to convert the Quetta-Karachi national highway to two lanes is already underway. He continued by saying that the two-lane Quetta-Karachi route to Khuzdar construction is moving quite quickly.
