200 Electric Public Transport Coaches are About to Arrive in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) gave its approval to 13 new feeder bus routes on Monday.

It also opted to hire buses from the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) instead of the private sector as part of a government-to-government deal. On 13 routes, NRTC will operate 200 electric buses. In 90 days, the service is expected to begin.

The introduction of electric buses has been a recent priority for CDA. Last year, the department also started testing similar buses in the Twin Cities.

On October 12, 2022, the department announced an open tender for bus consulting. The first batch of electric buses was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad by the end of December 2022, per the report at the time.

Moreover, CDA intended to construct three base stations for the buses. It seeks to operate the electric bus service in both Islamabad’s central city and its suburbs.

According to the most recent rumours, those ideas might soon see a concrete follow-up.
